Sidney's Story

An internship is meant to help explore potential employers and career paths you might be interested in or studying. For me, Advance Central PA has done so much more. During my three summers and one winter here I have learned and expanded my understanding of jobs, education, and the endless options after high school. Being a dual certification major for both early elementary education and special education, I create lesson plans and talk with students of all ages on a daily basis. Thanks to Advance Central PA, my lessons and conversations include information and images about apprenticeships, additional education outside of the college classroom, and encouragement to join nontraditional fields that interest students. Yes, I have these conversations with kindergartners to eighth graders!

This internship continues to improve my Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook skills as well as provide me real experience creating emails, communicating with businesses and reviewing data. I am extremely thankful for this internship and the skills it is fostering within me to become not only the best future employee I can be, but teacher too.
