Internship
Sports Management Internship

An intern in sports marketing at the YMCA would gain hands-on experience in promoting programs, engaging members, and supporting events — while learning how marketing and community outreach work in a nonprofit sports and recreation setting.

🔹Promotions & Advertising

  • Help create flyers, posters, and digital graphics for youth sports leagues, swim lessons, camps, and tournaments.

  • Draft and schedule social media posts to promote programs and highlight success stories.

  • Assist in writing newsletters, email blasts, or website updates about upcoming events.

🔹 Event Marketing & Support

  • Help plan and promote special events (e.g., sports tournaments, stroke clinics, youth camps).

  • Set up marketing booths at community events or school fairs to spread awareness of YMCA programs.

  • Collect photos, videos, and testimonials during events to use for future promotions.

🔹 Community & Member Engagement

  • Assist with membership drives or special promotions (student discounts, referral programs).

  • Help run contests, giveaways, or incentive programs to encourage participation.

  • Conduct outreach to local schools or youth groups about sports programs.

🔹 Market Research & Data

  • Track participation numbers and survey members about what sports or programs they’d like to see.

  • Analyze the effectiveness of social media campaigns or flyers.

  • Research competitor offerings (other gyms, sports leagues) to identify new opportunities.

🔹 Brand & Storytelling

  • Collect stories of how YMCA sports programs impact kids and families (great for fundraising or marketing).

  • Take photos/videos of teams, games, and practices for use in Y promotions.

  • Ensure all marketing follows YMCA branding guidelines.

A YMCA sports marketing intern helps get the word out, boost participation, and tell the story of how sports at the Y build community — all while learning practical marketing, communications, and event skills.
