Job Shadow
Job Shadow Opportunity with the YMCA

The YMCA offers high school students the opportunity to participate in a job shadow experience to explore careers in a community-focused environment. This experience allows students to observe YMCA staff in action and gain a better understanding of day-to-day responsibilities in areas such as youth programs, wellness, and facility operations.

During a job shadow, students will follow a YMCA staff member and learn how they support programs that promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This is a great way to see what it’s like to work at the Y while asking questions and learning directly from professionals.

What You’ll Do:

  • Observe YMCA staff during daily activities and programs

  • Learn how programs are planned and delivered

  • Interact with staff and ask questions about their roles and career paths

  • Gain insight into working in a nonprofit, community-based organization

What You’ll Gain:

  • Exposure to different career paths within the YMCA

  • Understanding of workplace expectations and responsibilities

  • Insight into working with youth, families, and the community

  • Increased confidence in exploring future career options

Requirements:

  • Must be a high school student

  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn

  • Ability to follow YMCA policies and guidelines during the visit

This job shadow experience is ideal for students who are interested in exploring careers in recreation, health and wellness, education, or nonprofit work while gaining a firsthand look at how the YMCA serves the community.
