Pine Creek Seed Farm, led by Chris McCracken, offers a comprehensive co-op program for high school students to gain hands-on experience in seed farming and processing. The farm provides essential services such as warehousing, seed distribution, cleaning, processing, bagging, tagging, and custom mixing.
Goals
• Provide a comprehensive understanding of the seed farming and processing industry.
• Develop practical skills in seed production, processing, packaging, and distribution.
• Foster an appreciation for sustainable farming practices and agricultural business operations.
Activities
• Orientation and Safety Training:
o Introduction to the farm’s history, mission, and operations.
o Safety protocols and basic farm tasks.
• Seed Production:
o Planting, growing, and maintaining seed crops.
o Learning about soil health, crop rotation, and pest management.
• Seed Processing:
o Harvesting, cleaning, and sorting seeds.
o Understanding the technology and quality control measures in seed processing.
